Thursday
Today was about as much fun as days can be.
We started with a trip to Fremantle for lunch with Steve. Well, we tried to start with that, however getting Felix's car seat installed in Steve's car proved to be a challenge. Steve ended up in the trunk, Stephen was in the car, and my dad was giving helpful pointers from outside.
It's a good thing that Steve has a tool box handy in his trunk.
Made it to Fremantle! Docks are behind them.
We had fish and chips on the docks, and basically ate ourselves into a coma.
Spent some time with the Bon Scott statue.
And then on to a maritime museum, where they had a Dutch ship that wrecked North of Perth in 1629. This is the front lower section of it.
We must have somehow survived our food coma, because when Steve mentioned ice cream, we were all on-board.
This kid is the easiest person to travel with.
And this little guy isn't far behind.
Me? Probably not so pleasant. Or maybe I just hate having a camera pointed at me.
Sophie and Felix LOVE Steve.
Sophie loves having her head scratched. And she loves her daddy.
Next up was the Fremantle park, where the kids got to burn off some of that ice cream. Sophie rode this back and forth until her arms hurt.
Felix wanted a turn, but was too short and skittish to go by himself.
And then Stephen was like, "what the hell?".
There was also a really cool climbing thing, and Sophie decided to take years off my life by scrambling to the top over and over again. Luckily Felix is more like his mama, and likes to stay close to the ground.
Just when we thought that our day couldn't get any better, it was time to go to Cottesloe beach.
So beautiful that it almost doesn't seem real.
Looking north:
Looking south (the building behind Steve and Stephen is the Cottesloe Surf Club, where Heath Ledger's funeral was held):
Kids, frolicking. We hadn't planned a beach stop, so had forgotten their hats and sunblock, which is why they're wearing clothes in the ocean. They still got a bit pink, but we'll plan better next time.
He wasn't having any fun at all.
Now, I know that you're thinking, "wow, Nat. That's a whole lot of fun to pack into one day. You must have been ready for bed by now", but there was more excitement to be had. And by excitement, I mean eating and drinking on J&K's back patio. Those who know us well know that I have one drink every five years or so, and that Stephen has about two beers per year, but there's something about being here that makes it seem like a good idea to have a little drink. Or, if you're Stephen and Ken, many little drinks.
These two like each other a fair amount.
I like this a fair amount too.
Stephen gets to hand-feed Gwenda.
These look so innocent when they're empty. Which they weren't for long.
Whew. That brings us up to date.
Hope that you're all having just as merry of a time wherever you are.
